Recycling & Printing A Chair

So with my project, I felt like I was slipping away from the idea of re-use and recycling, and focussing mainly on the theme of the print.  To link it all back together I have been restoring some old chairs that I brought from a recycling centre, in which I got two solid wood chairs for £6! BARGIN! So remembering that my theme is still Oriental Patterns, here is my first look into recycling, restoring and printing. Hope you like!

The state of the chairs when I brought them - they even had mould growing on them!

After the sanding and with the base coat.

Painting it an egg shell blue - glossy.

With the hand made stencil on, the idea for the stencil came from studying turkish tiles.

Taking the stencil off and outlining it in gold for the oriental feel.

Looking at peacock feathers.

And the finished product (for now, I might add some more down the line)...

Ideas for New Brief based on Oriental Patterns

The meaning of oriental means Eastern World in relation to Europe. I am going to be focussing on countries such as India, China, Japan, & Turkey, to design recycled wallpaper!

New Brief

New Brief - I am allowed To Choose Theme Hmmm?

Tradition Culture?

Chinese Culture ?

Chinese Art & Print Work?

So many ideas time to start brain storming? One thing we were told is that it has to be based around Eco Friendly Fashion and interiors.

Dries Van Norton PFW 12 - these prints remind me greatly of some chinese art work I saw in the Birmingham Gallery and V&A Over summer, I particularly like the contrast in line and colour!  After researching this I have just read her designs were influence by work she had seen at the V&A!

LONDON Fashion Week 2012

Mary Katrantzou's  S/S 2013 collect stood out for me this week, with her use of contrast between thick black borders and beautifully printed pictures - based upon Foreign Stamps. X.
